Exactly a year ago today I was on a seven-day hiking trip through Vanoise National Park in the French Alps. It was a fabulous trip through gorgeous terrain with postcard perfect views every step along the way. The trek was not overly difficult as we averaged around 6-8 hours of moderate hiking each day. Yet the scenery of Vanoise National Park was utterly stunning, and the meals at the end of the day along with the delightful Vin de Savoie and rich French cheese were equally wonderful.
During my seven-day hike, I took over a thousand photos mostly of the magnificent landscape surrounding me. I have documented each step of the way in my blog series here. However, I was inspired to take a look at the photos today once more in honor of the Weekly Photo Challenge: One shot, Two ways. The objective of the photo challenge is to explore the same shot in two different ways, one horizontal and the other vertical. Piece of cake, right? Well, actually I realized that out of all one thousand pictures I only had seven shot vertically. I couldn’t believe I’d ignored simply twisting my camera and exploring vertical shots. It has opened my eyes that I have much to learn about photography.
For this photo challenge, I took the seven identical shots I have in my collection and reworked them a bit using Snapseed’s dramatic filter to change the feel to the photo. I’d be curious to know which photos you prefer. It has been fun to relive this wonderful trip! It also gives me that well-known itch to wander and put on my hiking boots which thankfully I will be doing in less than three months as I head to Bolivia this October to give the Andes a whirl.
